Cadema has been designing and manufacturing children fashion clothing lines for over 50 years specializing in formal Children's wear as well as Ladies outerwear. The name CADEMA is derived from Cape Dress Manufacturers, and as the name suggests is based in Cape Town. (The name also means "progress" in Hebrew which was not known until many years later when Cadema formed a long term relationship with one of its customer retailers.)
The company was established in 1959 by Mr. and Mrs. E. Krauss with only 5 employees. The company now employs over 400 staff and supplies the South African market and retailers with exceptional children's and ladies wear.
The company was established as a PTY LTD company with its principal office and factory located in Epping Industry 2, Cape Town. The building was constructed in 1975 and incorporates a design team as well as the manufacturing plant. All product is designed and manufactured locally. All operations, from administrative to productions strategies, take place at this factory location of approximately 6000sqm. Its facilities include an embroidery section, a pleating tunnel, a Lecra grading system, a Steam Tunnel, a Computerized Design section which includes graphic and fabric design, a cutting room, a fabric buying and administrative department.
The customer history has always been to have a 'family' atmosphere, whereby management doors are always open to all staff. The company has always encouraged and promoted career development in all fields and levels, from pattern-making, embroidery design to pattern grading and fabric technology skills.
Child development programs have also been promoted: with a surfing and a rugby program to encourage children in poorer areas to develop healthier afterschool activities, thus also helping the working mother. (90% of which make up the clothing industry)
