Hagbes PLC P.O.Box 1044, Fax:- +251-11-663 86 53/79, Tel:- +251-11-663 91 91 was established in 1957 by its founder Hagop Behesnilian as an importer of machinery and building materials. Later, an edible oil-mill plant was established. After the passing away of the founder, the present management under the directorship of Hrair Behesnilian, founded in 1969 a flour milling complex. During the year from 1970 to 1974 another flour milling complex, a feed mill and two pasta production factories were installed, thus making the group one of the largest concerns of their kind, not only in Ethiopia, but in the region of East Africa. However with the coming in power of the communist regime of the previous regime, all our industrial activities were nationalized, and our commercial activities restricted.
With the introduction of a free market economy of our present government, our operations expanded once again. Today, we employ over 360 people, the number of which continues to grow as the volume of our business. The range of our activities extend from the importation and distribution of road construction machinery, agricultural tractors and implements, diesel engines, pumps and generating sets, industrial and agricultural machinery, light and heavy construction machinery, surveying instruments, motorcycles and outboard engines, to light duty trucks and buses, saloon cars, 4WD and different types of commercial vehicles.
