Introduce
At Digital Data Systems (Pty) Ltd we design, manufacture, sell (and race) the famous Perfect Power brand of fuel injection and engine management systems. All our products are developed in-house, which enables us to provide expert advice and service.
HISTORY
It started all back in 1984. Someone gave me a fuel injection system to repair. I was amazed at how simple and primitive the design was. I thought I would be able to make a much better one: and I did! The first unit I designed went into a 4x4 off-road vehicle. When the 4x4 started to win races, I got really hooked. I bought another 4x4, fitted our fuel injection system, race prepped it and entered it in other, more competitive "Off-Road" races. I only managed to complete 1 out of 3 races covering more than 3000 KM in Africa. During these races, we lost brakes, had the prop shaft go through the sump, seized the fuel pump, broke shocks, buckled rims, uprooted some trees, flattened bushes and dented our ego. But the only thing which didn't break was the fuel injection system!
We have come a long way since those days. I am still involved in all kinds of racing, and we are now producing a wide range of engine management systems. I have learned a lot, and continue to do so. The systems produced today are so much more sophisticated, keeping in line with the latest engine technology.
Although technology keeps on changing, three things that have not changed over the years are:
Our commitment to performance and technical excellence
Responding to your ideas
Our refusal to treat engine mechanics as computer illiterate
The last point is interesting. Back in 1984 you could set a fuel injection system by turning 3 screws. I refused doing it then, although everyone told me it was the way to go. Now, with environmental awareness, and fuel economy demands coupled to performance, it is impossible to tune a car with 3 screws. No-you don't need 4 screws either, you need a laptop computer and the latest tuning software!
The latest cars have engine control unit's which are tamper proof, and are very difficult to modify. A new type of "Piggy-Back" system is used instead, which leaves the original system intact, but rather enhances the engine performance at certain points. I believe that in future, the street legal performance will be the most technically demanding and that is where I see my challenge: Clean, efficient performance. And this is what PERFECT POWER stands for!
